P&G acquired the brand in 1990 from the Shulton Company. In the late 2000s, P&G introduced many forms of deodorant sticks, body washes, and body sprays in several scents – including Odor Blocker Body Wash which they then stated to market using Internet and TV ads. This led to the Old Spice commercial with Terry Crews.

Terry Crews (born July 30, 1968) is an American actor, comedian, voice artist and former player in the NFL. He is perhaps best known for his role as family patriarch Julius on the UPN/CW sitcom Everybody Hates Chris. Currently, Terry Crews stars in the TBS sitcom Are We There Yet? as Nick Kingston-Persons. Additionally, he stars in the BET reality series The Family Crews, and has appeared in such films as The 6th Day, Friday After Next, White Chicks, Idiocracy and The Expendables. However, we don’t want to forget Terry Crews hilarious acting in the Odor Blocker Body Wash Old Spice commercial (there were over a dozen in the entire series) in the midst of his movie and TV acting.
